Advantage from blasts; Govt plotting bans on rallies: APDM Abdul Sattar Qamar
MULTAN: Present Government headed by General Pervez Musharraf is plotting to prohibit the rallies, processions, demonstrations, Public meetings taking advantage of bomb blasts in Karachi, said the APDM leaders Nawabzada Mansoor Ahmed Khan, Sardar Zulfikar Ali Khosa, Barrister Taj Muhammad Khan Langah Chief of Pakistan Seraiki Party, while condemning the Karachi blasts, they have criticised the leadership of the ruling coterie and rejected statements of Ch Shujaat Hussain and Farooq AhmedLeghari regarding banning the rallies and constituting national government and thereby postponing the election by one year. Talking to newsmen separately, they put the onus of the attacks on the governments, both federal and Sindh, and demanded an inquiry to figure out a strategy for putting an end to the activities in future. To them, the only solution lies in the rule of law.President Pakistan Muslim League (N) Punjab Sardar Zulfikar Ali Khosa maintained that the government must control the terrorist activities instead of coming up with devious ways. “The government must try to curb violence against the innocent people by punishing the culprits. Now the miscreants have the impression that the government will not take any action against them. This fact is depicted through the track record of the government. What the government did against the killings of the leaders of the Sunni Tehreek in Karachi? Later, when people were killed again in Karachi, President Pervez Musharraf next day said ‘forget about the inquiry’. When the Chief Justice Sindh High Court took suo moto action, then the government institutions did not cooperate. Resultantly, nothing came out of all the efforts in this regard. Whither inquiry into the blast in the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s rally?” he questioned, while blasting the government for putting the onus of the terrorist activities on the suicide bombers sans conducting even long before conducting the enquiry. “Now they are talking of denying the constitutional right of the people, that is, the right of association instead of controlling terrorism and punishing the culprits,” he averred. About Farooq Leghari’s statement of postponing the elections after formulating a government of national consensus, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Acting President of PML-N questioned: “Does he (Leghari) include president in the same set-up? Will the agencies keep on working like this? Who will serve the masses?” he quizzed, while adding that the only solution to the present predicament was democracy with thorough rule of law. Nawabzada Mansoor Ahmed Khan Chief of PDP, while reacting to the statement of Ch Shujaat Hussain, said the latter was pardonable as one was always figuring out whether to weep or laugh at his statements. “His attitude is condemnable as it is undemocratic. Innocent people have been killed with the support of the US and the UK and they are seeking ban on rallies. This is no constitutional,” he said while adding that Ch Shujaat must resign now. About statement of Farooq Leghari, Chief of PDP said the present government was unconstitutional and the rulers were illegal. “Such a suggestion could only come from a person like Farooq Leghari, who wants to stay in power always. Now they are seeking a way out of the quagmire created by them,” he said, while advising the ruling coterie to go quiet for some days. “Is it necessary that they should always be talking to the media? Why can’t they keep quiet for a few days?” he questioned. Meanwhile, various political and religious parties have condemned the suicide attacks on PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto, and expressed their grief over the loss of precious lives of innocent people gathered in Karachi from across the country. They held the government, both federal and Sindh, responsible for the killings and demanded and immediate inquiry into the incident to bring the culprits to justice.
