178 polling stations declared sensitive
NAWABSHAH (APP): The District Police Nawabshah has declared 78 highly sensitive and 100 sensitive polling stations out of 1351 polling stations to be established for polling on two National and five Sindh Provincial Assembly seats of the district on January 8, 2008. The District Police Officer Syed Ghaiyasuddin Shah Rashidi while talking to this scribe on Wednesday informed that additional police personnel would be deployed at these highly sensitive and sensitive polling stations. The elections would be held for NA-213, NA-214, PS-24, PS-27, PS-26, PS-25 and PS-28, he added. Meanwhile, electioneering has gained momentum in the district as all the candidates contesting have sped up their efforts of holding corner meetings, seeking support of volunteers to work at their polling camps and as polling agents on polling day. On NA-213, a total of 13 candidates are contesting election however, tough contest could be witnessed between Muhammad Murib Brohi of MQM and Dr. Azra Afzal of PPP, a former MNA and sister of Asif Ali Zradari. Besides, Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah of PML (N), Syed Zahid Hussain Shah of PML (F) and Hizbullah of MMA are also in the field of contest. The PML (Q) did not nominate its candidate from this constituency. On NA-214, PML (Q) has awarded party ticket to Ex-Provincial Education Minister Sardar Khan Muhammad Dahiri while Ex-MNA Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah of PPP, Hafiz Abdul Razzaq Parihyar of MMA, Ali Asghar Rind of MQM and Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah of PML (N) are also in the field of contest to give tough fight to each other. The PS-24 is being declared a sensitive constituency where one to one contest could be witnessed between Abdul Rasheed of MQM and Tariq Masood Arain of PPP. PML (Q) has announced its support to MQM candidate at this constituency. On PS-25, a total of eleven candidates are in the field of contest, where contest would be held between Ex-MPA Ahmed Ali Jalbani of PPP, Dr. Syed Habib Ahmed Jilani of MQM, Raza Muhammad Mengal of MMA, Abdul Rehman Khosa of PML (N) and Ali Nawaz Brohi of PML (Q). On PS-26, a total of fifteen candidates are contesting the elections, however the tough fight could be witnessed between Mumtaz Ali Jamali of PML (Q), Tariq Rafique of PML (N), Shabbir Ahmed Keerio of MQM and Syed Faish Ahmed Shah of PPP. Syed Fasih Ahmed Shah is the son of Ex-MPA Syed Ali Ahmed Shah. On PS-27, Out of thirteen contesting candidates, interesting contest could be witnessed among Abdul Hafeez Unnar of PML (Q), Zafar Hussain Khaskheli of PML (N), Syed Ghulam Shabbir Shah of MMA, Ali Asghar Rind of MQM and ex-MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio of PPP. Candidate Abdul Hafeez Unnar is the son of caretaker provincial minister Ghulam Rasool Unnar. On PS-28, out of fourteen candidates tough contest could be expected between Ex-MPA Sardar Jam Tamachi of PPP, Ghulam Haider Rahu of MQM, Dr. Bahadur Khan Dahiri of PML (Q), Mian Muhammad Tahir Arain of PML (N) and Ahsan Ullah of MMA. On National Assembly seats, Dr. Azra Fazal of PPP was elected MNA on NA-213 after securing 74,000 votes in the General Elections 2002 while her nearest contester was Syed Zahid Shah of PML (Q) who bagged 28,000 votes. On NA-214, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah of PPP was elected with 58,000 votes while his opponent Mushtaq Rahu clinched 48,000 votes. On Provincial Assembly Seats, Tariq Masood Arain of PPP was elected MPA on PS-24 by securing 23,000 votes while Rao Samih of MQM bagged 18,000 votes against him. On PS-25, Ahmed Ali Jalbani of PPP secured 29,000 votes while his closest rival was Ali Nawaz Brohi of PML (Q) who bagged 15,000 votes. On PS-26, Syed Ali Ahmed Shah elected MPA with 27,000 votes while his opponent Bahadur Khan Dahiri of PML (Q) secured 19,000 votes. On PS-27, Ghulam Qadir Chandio of PPP clinched the seat with 27,000 votes while his nearest contester was Abdul Hafeez Unnar of PML (Q) who clinched 16,000 votes. On PS-28, Sardar Jam Tamachi elected MPA by securing 27,000 votes while Bahadur Dahiri of PML (Q) bagged 22,000 votes against him. The District Nawashah is comprising on four Talukas of Nawabshah, Sakrand, Daur and Daulatpur with 51 Union Council and 1.3 million population. On January 8, 2008 General Elections, a total of 632070 voters including 341645 male and 290425 female voters would exercise their right of franchise and elected their favourite candidates.
