National Snooker under new format, says PBSA
KARACHI (APP): Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) has made slight change in the format of National Snooker Champ-ionship by allowing only 32 cueists instead of 48 as compared to last year. “Reducing the number from 48 to 32 will make it more competitive and exciting and help in curtailing the expenses,” PBSA President Alamgir Anwar Shaikh told APP on Thursday. 34th edition of the nationals is schedule to be held at Karachi Club’s Amir Billiards Hall from March 16 to 21 with M. Sajjad from Punjab defending his title. He said former World Champion M. Yousuf has failed to qualify for the nationals for the first time. To a question, he said there was no concept and rule of granting wild-card entry to him according to PBSA regulations. PBSA Chief said, 32 cuemen picked after the provincial cups from across the country will be taking part in the six-day competition. He said they will be drawn in eight groups and top two from each group after league activity will qualify for the last 16 round. He said a prize money of Rs.185,000 will be at the offer in the event. The winner will grab Rs.50,000, runner-up get Rs.30,000 and losing semifinalist each will be presented Rs.10,000.Shaikh expressed gratitude to Federal Sports Minister Pir Syed Aftab Hussain Jilani and Sports Ministry officials for releasing half the grant
