| Third frigate to join PN by year end: CNS |

KARACHI: The third ship of the F-22 P Frigate project would join Pakistan Navy Fleet towards the end of current year.
This was stated by Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Noman Bashir here on Monday on the occasion of the induction of PNS Shamsheer- the second ship of the F-22 P Frigates project, at Pakistan Naval Dockyard. Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani was the chief guest on the occasion.
In his welcome address, Admiral Noman Bashir said the first ship Zulfiquar had already been inducted in the navy while the third ship would join the Pakistan Fleet towards the end of current year.
He said the fourth ship was under construction at Karachi Shipyard with the active cooperation of Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard of China.
The Naval Chief informed that the F-22 P Frigates have been designed and constructed specific to the requirements of Pakistan Navy by the joint efforts of Pakistan Navy and China Shipbuilding and Trading Company (CSTC).
He said the contract of the Frigate programme was signed in April 2005 and he was happy to see that all the ships were being inducted in the Fleet according to the stipulated time frame.
Admiral Noman Bashir was of the view that PNS Shamsheer was a very capable ship and equipped for multi-purpose tasks with robust, reliable and modern weapons and sensors.It was designed to survive in multi-threat environment with Air Defence missiles and Close-in Weapon Systems while engaging multiple targets simultaneously with long-range weapons. It had an advance Anti Submarine Warfare capability and the capability of integrated helo operations.
The Naval Chief pointed out that the F-22 P Frigate programme was a hallmark signifying close defence cooperation between Pakistan and China. The foundation of Sino-Pak relations was laid six decades ago by our illustrious forefathers based on the shared bonds of mutual trust, respect, brotherhood and friendship between the people of our two countries. Since then, this relationship had grown deeper in all spheres of defence and economic cooperation. |
