Australian team calls on COAS, CJCSC F.P. Report
RAWALPINDI: Duncan Lewis, National Security Advisor of Australia and Major General John Cantwell, Commander Joint Task Force called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani here on Monday. The visiting dignitaries remained with the Chief of Army Staff for some time and discussed the matters of professional interest. Duncan E. Lewis, and Major General John Cantwellalso called on General Tariq Majid, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) at Joint Staff Headquarters and shared views on the regional security situation including developments in Afghanistan, India - Pakistan relations and bilateral cooperation between Defence Forces of both countries. General Tariq appreciated continued Australian support to Pakistan in diverse fields especially for rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Swat and Malakand, doubling of economic and developmental assistance, and commitment of support for reconstruction and rebuilding phase in recovered areas of FATA. He also lauded the contribution of Australian troops deployed in Afghanistan in bringing stability to war torn country and the region. CJCSC expressed that the mutually beneficial relationship between both the countries is growing with every passing year and visit by Mr. Duncan E. Lewis will afford a good opportunity to both sides to understand each other’s perspectives on various issues. The visiting dignitaries briefed the CJCSC on the prospects of post military surge and socio-political mainstreaming efforts in Uruzgan province, Afghanistan, appreciated the efforts and sacrifices of Armed Forces of Pakistan against terrorism and violent extremism, and assured Australia’s continued support to Pakistan.
