| ISLAMABAD: Advisor on Interior Rehman Malik has warned of filing FIRs against those instigating people for a revolt against the Government even if a single person was killed or property damaged during the long march.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said the government would fulfill its duty to maintain law and order. He said citizens of Islamabad have appealed to the Government not to permit the use of Constitution Avenue by the participants of the long march.
He said Constitution Avenue comes within the security zone and frequented by diplomats and there were important offices around it.
He cautioned that “if any body tried to take law into his hand then the law will take its course”. He told the organizers that the Government would give them place to express their views but don’t come to the streets of Islamabad.
He said politics may not be played at the cost of lives of the children of Islamabad residents.
He said he has directed the security forces to ensure security during the long march by whatever means including scanning of the participants through security gates and deployment of maximum number of police.
Rehman Malik said the government accords due respect to legal fraternity but the forthcoming long march has two connotations i.e. protest of the lawyers over judges issue and the agitation over the dismissal of Shahbaz Sharif.
He asserted that there is no danger to the government from the long march and they will deal with it.
He appealed to the political leadership joining the long march to ensure not to give irresponsible statement which are not in the interest of Pakistan and not to try to create East Pakistan like situation.
He warned that the enemies of the country who attacked the Sri Lankan team could do so during the long march and cause harm to Pakistan and its reputation.
Rehman Malik referred to statements by PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif at a series of meetings in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad and other places and said he incited the people for rebellion without realizing that by such statements he was violating the spirit of the constitution. He referred to section 124(a) of the Pakistan Penal Code which says that whoever by words, either spoken or written or by visible presentation attempts to incite the people for revolt can be punished for life imprisonment with fine or three years imprisonment and fine.
He said Nawaz Sharif used derogatory language against the President and him (Rehman Malik) but he would not respond in the same tone.
He quoted Mian Nawaz Sharif as saying “We do not accept the decision of the court because it is fake, I have ordered the police not to obey the government’s orders and wage jehad against them, today I raise Alam-e-Baghawat. I urge you join me in the long march and we will bring revolution in the country.
He said he was leaving it to the people of Pakistan and the media to give their opinion on these statements.
Replying to a question about inquiry into the murder of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Rehman Malik said “I have proofs relating to the murder of Benazir Bhutto. I also know the person who ordered the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.” He reaffirmed commitment of the government to bring the culprits to justice. |
