| Tribal clash leaves 10 dead, as many wounded |
|
| JALALABAD (AIP): A tribal clash in the Ghaznikhel district of eastern Ningarhar province left 10 people dead and as many wounded on Tuesday.
Engineer Shukrullah, district chief of Ghanikhel, told Afghan Islamic Press that the clash took place between the Ali Sher and Mamand tribes over the township of land.
He said 10 people were killed and 10 more wounded from both the tribes, adding it was an old dispute between the two tribes which sparked today’s clash.
The district chief said the clash ended after security forces reached the area.
Noor Muhammad Shenwar, a doctor at Ghanikhel clinic told AIP in a fresh telephonic contact that they received three dead bodies and 10 injured, including three policemen. He said that all the injured were shifted to Public Health Hospital in Jalalabad due to their critical condition.
Meanwhile, security officials said rocket mistakenly fired by ANA troops killed one soldier and wounded two more in the same event.
Two commanders among 25 suspected Taliban detained: Afghan and international security forces detained 25 suspected Taliban, including two commanders, in difference areas of Afghanistan, ISAF and defense ministry said.
Combined forces “captured a Haqqani commander” during a raid in Khost province, ISAF said in a statement. It said that the raid was conducted at Galyan village in Sabari district during which “several other insurgents” were also captured besides seizing several automatic rifles. The statement further said that the joint force detained a suspected Taliban commander during a search operation in Helmand province. It said “a few other insurgents” were also detained during the operation conducted in Washir district.
ISAF said that several suspected insurgents were apprehended during a search operation at Fatehjang Ziarat village of Garamser district, Helmand province. The statement said that several suspects were arrested in Zharay district of Kandahar province last night while a weapons cache was destroyed in Nadali district of Helmand province yesterday.
Meanwhile, Afghan defense ministry said in a statement that Afghan National Army in collaboration with foreign forces detained 22 Taliban over the last 24 hours during separate operations.
It said that nine suspects were held in Khost, eight in Helmand and five in Kandahar.
NATO’s press office in eastern zone told Afghan Islamic Press that US-led coalition forces conducted operation against Taliban in Jalalabad, capital of eastern Ningarhar province last night. It said that three armed opponents of the government were detained.
Taliban have made no comment so far. |
