Govt trying to curb drugs’ demand: Official

ISLAMABAD (APP): The government is not only trying to eradicate narcotics but also tryimg to control their demand within the country. For the purpose, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) being the subordinate department of the Narcotics Ministry is managing different projects including 45-bed Model Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation Centres (MATRCs) at Islamabad, Quetta and Karachi, said an official of the Narcotics Ministry, while talking to APP. He said,"the MATRCs provide free of cost treatment, food, boarding and rehabilitation facilities to the drug addicts". The official further said that the Treatment Programme for Injecting Drug Users (Drop in-Centres) were also operating with an objective to provide initial out-patient treatment and registration facilities to the 125,000 injecting drug users and street children involved in solvent drug abuse. "Drop-in-Centres have been established in Rawalpindi, Quetta and Karachi where the drug abusers are registered and provided with necessary first aid and psychotherapy alongwith some other facilities", he said.
