According to Kabul police officials the security men killed during the fighting against aliban attackers including police and troops of Afghan National Army (ANA) while 41 police and ANA personnel were also wounded.
The police officials told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) that five civilians also sustained injuries during the clash.
Earlier, deputy police chief Muhammad Daud Amin said that three attackers were killed in Pul-e-Charkhi area, four in Sherpur and five in Darul Aman.
Taliban claimed responsibility for the attacks and said heavy casualties were inflicted on Afghan and foreign forces. Taliban did not release final details of the attacks.
Meanwhile, security forces killed 36 gunmen and detain another after Taliban coordinated attacks targeted government installations, offices and buildings of foreign missions in the Afghan capital Kabul and three provinces yesterday, interior minister said.
Of the 37 attackers, 15 mounted attacks in capital Kabul and the rest in Logar, Paktia and Ningarhar provinces, Interior Minister General Bismiullah Muhammadi, told a press conference here on Monday.
“Six were killed in Sherpur, four in Paktia Kot and five in Darul Aman area near the parliament building while one was detained and under interrogations,” he explained.
He said eight police were also killed while 44 people including 15 civilians and police were wounded during the clashes, adding a commander of Kabul Quick Reaction Force, Fahim, was also among the injured.
He said the clearing operations were conducted carefully to minimize civilians and security forces’ casualties, adding a total of three civilians were also killed in the attacks. He said the attackers were disguising as women and had entered the areas in flower decorated motor cars.
Meanwhile, defence ministry said that a total of 33 attackers took part in the first coordinated attacks of the Taliban spring offensive of the year. Some people helped the attackers transported to different areas in return for money, General Afzal Aman, operation chief of defence ministry, told journalists this morning.
“There are people who facilitate attackers in return for monitory benefits. Speculations suggesting that security forces were involved in this practice are in corrected. Yes, the problem being faced by the security forces is lack of necessary equipments and improper searches conducted in the entry points of cities,” he said.
He said Afghan security forces conducted the operations very effectively and killed all the attackers.
Security experts, however, questioned the performance of security forces and said how could the attackers managed to conduct attacks in Kabul city and three provinces simultaneously.
As far as the killing of the attackers is concerned, the security forces’ performance needed to be appreciated but their efforts to avert such incidents are weak, General Attiqullah Amerkhel, a military expert, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).
