PESHAWAR: President, Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI), Afan Aziz, while welcoming the decision of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for provision of loans upto Rs1billion with maximum period for industrial growth and increase of markup rate on loans to investors, termed as the provincial budget for next financial year 2012-13 a balanced one and business-friendly.Reacting on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa budget 2012-13, he said that step of disbursement of Rs1 billion for industrial growth, was an exemplary and exceptional one, which would promote industrial sector in the province. However, he demanded of government to increase the limit of loans for the purpose.Though, he said the government had unveiled plan to establish new industrial units in Malakand division, Abbottabad, and Mansehra, whereas the existing industries were immensely suffered due to energy crisis, ban on new connections of gas, poor infrastructure and lack of other required facilities. In the prevailing situation, he added that the establishment of new industrial units would not support economic growth in the province.Mr Aziz welcomed the hefty allocation for initiation of new five hydel power generation projects, which can produce 200MW electricity in the province. However, he said that the 200MW electricity would sell out from Rs 5 to 6 per unit to national power grid, while same electricity industrialists and poor masses purchase at Rs15 per unit, which can not yield positive result of economic and industrial growth.Though, he said that province would get royalty on selling off electricity at Rs 6 per unit to national grid, but it was not provide any relief to poor consumers and industrialists. He said that the electricity produced by five hydel generation projects, should be given to industries, which could generate employment opportunities for more than 0.1million people in the province.Currently, he said that about 4,500 MW shortfall of electricity in the national power grid station, which nearly10 percent of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. He said the selling out the 200MW electricity to national power grid would not end the current energy shortage in the province, urged the government to provide electricity to industries at nominal rates and priority basis.
