Automobile production stays positive during ongoing year

ISLAMABAD (APP): The production of jeeps and cars witnessed positive growth of 10.33 percent during the first ten months of the current fiscal year as compared to the same period of last year.
As many as 124,704 jeeps and cars were produced during July-April (2011-12) as compared to the production of 113,027 units during July-April (2010-11), according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The production of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) during the period under review also went up by 8.28 per cent.
The LCVs production during the ongoing fiscal year stood at 17,058 against the production of 15,753 units during the last year, the PBS data revealed.
The output of motorcycles also increased by 2.17 percent by going up from the production of 1,342,536 units last year to 1,371,703 units during the ongoing year.
The production of buses also increased from 392 units to 462 units, showing upward growth of 17.86 percent.
However, the production of tractors and trucks decreased by 42.25 percent and 7.70 percent respectively.
According to the data, as many as 33,166 tractors were produced during ongoing year against the production of 57,434 units last year whereas the output of trucks was recorded at 2,133 units against the production of 2,311 units.
On the other hand, during the month of April 2012, the production of jeeps and cars increased by 24.18 per cent as compared to the same month of last year.
The output of jeeps and cars in April 2012 stood at 14,274 units against the production of 11,495 units during April 2011.
