KARACHI: The PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif found no way but to cancel his planned visit to Karachi last Friday due to deepening rupture and a tug of war for getting powers and monopoly by the leaders who are said to be heading their groups in PML-N's Sindh chapter. Nawaz Sharif has finally decided to dissolve the body in Sindh soon and Ameer Bux Bhutto is likely to replace Ghous Ali Shah as provincial president of the party to avoid rifts among the leaders.
The PML-N has reportedly been divided into five groups in Sindh. Three former chief ministers and a governor from the party - namely Ghous Ali Shah, Liaquat Ali Jatoi, Mumtaz Bhutto, Saleem Zia and Mamnoon Hussain - are heading their own groups and have fallen into deep differences.
PML- N's spokespersons however justified the cancellation of Nawaz Sharfi's visit with bad weather but the inside stories talked differently.
Insiders from PML-N said, a storm seems to be brewing as differences within local leaders in the PML-N Sindh is said to be the reason. Nawaz Sharif failed to attend an event held at a hotel in Karachi. Some leaders from the PML-Quaid, including former provincial minister Manzoor Panhwar and influential members of the Jamot Family were to announce joining the PML-N at the event. The PML-N chief chose to address the gatherings over the phone rather than coming to Karachi because of serious differences in his party.
Some leaders of the PML-N even refused to attend both the events and complained they were not being taken into confidence in party decisions.
It is also claimed that Mumtaz Bhutto, who merged his Sindh National Front (SNF) in the PML-N, had held meetings with Nawaz Sharif twice to express his concerns. In the first meeting which took place in Islamabad on June 13 Mumtaz Bhutto apprised his new boss of what was happening in the party in Sindh and how it was in disarray. In second meeting which took place in Lahore on June 14, Mumtaz Bhutto told Mr. Sharif that he could not work under such circumstances when there are groups in the party to make hostage it.
After the objections of Mumtaz Bhutto, Nawaz decided to form a new body in Sindh with Ameer Bux Bhutto, son of Mumtaz as new provincial president of PML-N by dissolving the prevailing one to get rid of the groups and differences, insiders claimed.
"Nawaz Sharif would come on two days' visit to Sindh next week to make important decisions of the party", a local leader of the party told The Frontier Post on the request of anonymity.
