Sports, culture be given priority in Fata: Governor

PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Barrister Masood Kausar said sports and culture should be taken at priority basis besides other reforms and development projects in FATA.
This he said while presiding over a high level meeting held for regularization of Local Government Drafts 2012 for FATA at Governor's House Peshawar on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by ACS FATA, Secretary Social Sector, Sec/Director LG and others.
The Governor was briefed about the draft prepared for local government in FATA. It was stated that there would be Municipal Council headed by a Chairman and a Voice Chairman.
The Chairman would preside over the meetings of the Council. It consists of better managed clean towns known as Urban Hubs.
It was stated that the Local Government system would be established on the basis of adult franchise based on the principle of one man one vote for a term of 4 years. It was stated that the Municipal Council would perform Compulsory functions like water supply , food & drink etc and optional functions like public health, social welfare etc.
According to the draft, finance includes Public Funds which consists of all grants and taxes and Special Funds to be utilized for special proposes on the direction of the Governor. It was sated that property tax and other taxes, fees, cesses etc would be imposed with the approval of council. According to the draft the governor shall notify rules for offences, prosecution and punishment for offences and shall specify.
The Governor said we want to devolve democratic powers to the gross root level to provide easy access to the people to express their grievances and convey their issues to the government for their solutions.
Meanwhile, Governor Masood Kausar said tribal people have given a lot of sacrifices for their country and we want peace in FATA as soon as possible.
This he said in a meeting with twenty members lawyers delegation led by Muhammad Jamil Qamar Advocate, at Governor's House Peshawar last Tuesday.
The Governor listened the problem and demands of the lawyers and assured them to solve their problem and meet their demands. The Governor said that lawyers belonging to tribal areas should be adjusted in FATA Prosecution Branch and FATA Tribunal. He said we want peace in FATA as tribal people have already given a lot of sacrifices for their beloved country. He said we want to introduce more reforms in FATA and tribal people will see a Local Body System to be setup very soon in FATA.
The Governor also expressed his heartfelt condolence and sorrow over the sad demise of the father of MPA from Swat, Dr. Haider Ali Khan.
In his condolence message sent in the name of Dr. Haider Ali Khan on Monday, the Governor while expressing his deep sympathies with him and other members of the bereaved family has prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and courage to them to bear the irreparable loss with patience.
