Eight soldiers killed in Gujrat terror attack

GUJRAT: Eight army soldiers and a policeman were killed on Monday when terrorists attacked an army camp by River Chenab near the industrial city of Wazirabad, officials said on Monday. Five other security officials were injured.
The Inter-Services Public Relations said four attackers came on motorbikes but escaped in a car. The soldiers were in a rescue party looking for the body of a pilot missing in a helicopter crash in May.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the injured personnel and bodies were taken to the military hospital in Gujranwala.
The policeman killed in the attack was from Qasar Kunjah town and was on duty at the bus terminal, the District Police Officer in Gujranwala said.
According to sources other than the ISPR, the Tehreek-e-Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack, condemning which Prime Minister's Advisor on Interior Rehman Malik said "such cowardly acts will not discourage of our security forces, which are fighting terrorism bravely to protect the common Pakistani.
TTP accepted the responsibility of attack on troops according to private TV channel.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has strongly condemned the incident of target killing at Chenab Bridge in which seven Army men and one police official were martyred by the firing of terrorists.
The Prime Minister said that these cowardly acts of terrorism would not weaken the resolve of the government to defeat the forces of terrorism and extremism.
He said that government was determined to defeat the scourge of terrorism no matter how many sacrifices it had to render for this purpose. He expressed his deepest condolences with the bereaved families.
Senior Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik condemned the killing of seven soldiers in Gujrat and vowed to punish the perpetrators of the terrorist act as soon as possible.
Talking to media persons outside the Parliament House here, Rehman Malik said that the District Police Officer Gujrat had been directed to thoroughly probe the gory incident. He sympathized with the heirs of the deceased and prayed to the Almighty to rest the departed souls in eternal peace and grant courage to the families to bear the losses with equanimity.
