Five killed, 8 injured in Dir road mishap

TIMERGARA: Five people including a woman and a child were killed while eight others injured when a pickup truck they were riding in plunged into a deep ravine at Luqman Banda Khall on Tuesday, police and residents told. Sources said a passenger vehicle bound for Samar Taal from Khal bazaar went out of the driver control at a sharp turn in Luqman Banda and fell into a deep roadside ravine.
Three persons identified as Anwar, Ismail and Nazary were killed on the spot while a child and a woman succumbed to injuries on their way to hospital. The injured including driver of the vehicle Jamshid were brought to the district head quarter hospital Timergara where their condition is stated to be out of danger.
The dead and the injured belonged to the same village, sources said.
Meanwhile residents of Malakand Payeen and Bala on Tuesday blocked the main road in front of the Timergara press club in protest against Wapda and government for their failure to supply uninterrupted electricity.
The charged protesters most of them teenagers also damaged three cars as their drivers tried to pass them. Carrying batons and sticks the enraged demonstrators marched on Timergara Balambat road and chanted slogans against the rulers. Haji Daud Syed, leader of the protesters alleged that they had no electricity during sehri and iftar in Ramazan. He said the prime minister and the water and power minister had announced that there would be no load shedding in Ramazn but they failed to keep their words.
He demanded of the government and c0ncerned authorities to ensure smooth supply of electricity in Dir Lower otherwise they wold have no option other than to come on the roads.
