JALALABAD (AIP): A prayer leader among 25 people were injured in a bomb blast inside a mosque in Chaparhar district of eastern Ningarhar province today, a local elder said Friday.
The bomb planted in the prayers area of the mosque in Daulatzai region went off at approximately 1:40 p.m. (local time) when people were offering Friday prayers, Malak Mohkam, an elder of Chaparhar district, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).
He said 25 people including prayers leader, Maulvi Jan Muhammad, were wounded in the blast.
An eyewitness told AIP that among the injured was a government employee identified as Israel, adding eight of the victims sustained severe injuries and shifted to hospital for treatment.
Sayed Afandi, deputy director of Ningarhar health department, said 18 injured were brought to hospital in which four were discharged after preliminary treatment and the rest were under treatment.
Taliban disassociated themselves from the blast and said they do not conduct explosions inside mosques
“Neither Mujahideen kill innocent people or conduct explosions in mosques. No such person was there who could be targeted by Mujahideen.
These explosions are being carried out by the intelligence agencies of Kabul administration to defame Mujahideen. The Mujahideen are enjoying support of the nation and well aware of the enemy’s conspiracies,” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).
