Australian parliamentarians’ delegation calls on Kundi

ISLAMABAD (APP): Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday said Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with Australia and wanted to further strengthen the same through enhanced parliamentary ties and economic cooperation.
Talking to a nine-member Australian parliamentary delegation led by Senator John Hogg, President of the Senate at Parliament House, the Deputy Speaker said Pakistan and Australia had similar views on global and regional issues and shared democratic values and long standing links through the Commonwealth.
He stressed the need for frequent exchange of parliamentary delegations between the two countries.
He was of the view that frequent interaction between parliamentarians and business communities would improve relations between the two countries. Kundi said democracy in Pakistan was gaining strength and the government had set the welfare of the people it as priority.
“Provisions of education, healthcare, jobs and social amenities are top priorities of the democratic government,” he said and also apprised the delegation of the functioning and organizational setup of the National Assembly.
He said that the present Parliament had legislated a record number of lwas, including the historic 18th, 19th and 20th constitutional amendments and that the opposition had played a very constructive and positive role.
The deputy speaker said Pakistan was facing a variety of challenges at present. However, with the support of people of Pakistan and friendly countries like Australia, it would overcome these challenges.
