1,500km roads will be constructed in Sindh

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah today presided a high level meeting to review the Development schemes of year 2012-13 under the Works and Services department, held at Chief Minister house.
Chief Minister Sindh stressed the need to provide communication network in the province which include on-going schemes, new road schemes, repair and maintenance of rain affected and damaged roads and farm to market roads. He said that roads play important role for development and economic progress of any country and present government pays full emphasis on road sector. Syed Qaim Ali Shah further said that this year an amount of Rs: 8 crore has been allocated for each member of provincial assembly, and all MPA's have been asked to give their schemes in road sector, other important sectors, provision of sui-gas or supply electricity in villages.
Sindh Secretary for Works & Services department Kazi Shahid Pervaiz presented detailed briefing of activities and performance of the department. He informed details of various project and funding position. It was decided that W&S department will complete the construction target of 1500 km of roads up to the end of January 2013, for which required allocation will be released immediately.
The meeting was informed that the Finance department has released first quarter of allocation i-e Rs: 2.5 Billion to W&S department and 145 Km of road under regular ADP will be completed. Chief Minister Sindh directed that besides time factor, the quality of material and construction work be strictly maintained for better results.
The meeting was attended by Sindh Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Sindh Raja Muhammad Abbas, Additional Chief Secretary (P&D) Malik Israr, Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Dr. Haq, Principal Secretary to C.M Mr. Muhammad Siddique Memon, Additional Secretary C&W department and others.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qiam Ali Shah today held a meeting with Finance and Planning Development department at C.M House. The meeting was attended among others by Sindh Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Sindh Raja Muhammad Abbas, Additional Chief Secretary (P&D) Malik Israr, Principal Secretary to CM Mr. Muhammad Siddique Memon, Additional Chief Secretary Finance Mr. Asif Khan, officers of P&D and Finance Department and others. Chief Minister Sindh said that so far an amount of Rs: 15.2 billion has been released to 39 provincial department for various development works which is 25% of total ADP budget.
The meeting was informed that 97- schemes pertaining Health sectors are being implemented, which include Trauma centre for Karachi, renovation and reconstruction of District Headquarter Hospitals and Basic Health Units, and Special Programme of Hepatitis, eradication of Polio etc. The meeting was informed that so far Rs: 200 million have been allocated during current year for various projects of Karachi. The meeting was also informed that funds have been allocated for development works, construction of road of Gorakh Hill Tourist spot; rural Development, promotion of Information Technology, reconstruction work of tomb on shrine of Hazrat Qalander Lal Shahbaz etc.
The meeting was informed that a project of Archives department worth Rs: 94 million has been approved, and so far Rs: 20 million were spent last year while Rs: 20 million have been allocated for current year's allocation.
