28 militants, two ANA soldiers killed on other fronts
KABUL (PAN/AIP): Forty-seven militants, three Afghan security officials and a civilian were killed in separate incidents in different parts of the country over the past 24 hours, officials said on Monday.
Twenty-eight insurgents were killed, five others injured and 54 more detained by Afghan and international soldiers during operations in Nangarhar, Baghlan, Kandahar, Zabul, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Ghor, Helmand and Nimroz provinces, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.
It added a large amount of ammunitions, weapons and drugs were seized during the operations.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence in a separate statement said that eight militants, including a commander named Mullah Mohammad were killed in the Nawa district of Helmand during an operation.
It said another two insurgents were killed in the Zheri district of Kandahar and a third in the Syedabad district of central Maidan Wardak.
Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers detained 18 insurgents and seized weapons and ammunition from them during operations over the past 24 hours, the defence ministry added.
It also said two ANA soldiers were killed and a dozen others injured in insurgent attacks and roadside bombings in Ghazni, Farah, Maidan Wardak and Paktika provinces.
Six more rebels were killed and three others wounded during clashes and operations in Chak and Syedabad districts of central Maidan Wardak, the Syedabad district chief, Dr. Fazal Karim Muslim and the governor’s spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid said.
A civilian was killed and a tribal elder was among three people wounded when a explosives-packed motorcycle exploded in the district bazaar of Shah Joy district of Zabul province on Sunday, the town’s administrative head, Mohammad Siddique, said.
However, the provincial police headquarters said it was a suicide attack. The police chased the bomber and shot him dead before reaching his target, the police HQ said in a statement. Four civilians were also injured in the incident.
Elsewhere, one policeman was killed and another injured in two back-to-back explosions in the Dolaina district of western Ghor province, deputy police chief Brig. Gen. Hussain Safawi said.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the fighters blew up a vehicle of security personnel in the Shinkot district of the province on Sunday, killing five security men aboard.
Separately, two insurgents were killed when the bomb they were planning on a road went off accidently in the Charchino district of central Uruzgan province, police spokesman Farid Ail said.
Meanwhile, as many as 28 armed opponents and two Afghan National Army soldiers were killed during separate operations by joint forces in various parts of the country over the past 24 hours, the interior and defence ministries said Monday .
An interior ministry press release available with the Afghan Islamic Press stated Afghan and Coalition combined forces conducted operations in Nangarhar, Baghlan, Kandahar, Zabul, Maidan Wardag, Ghazni, Ghor, Helmand and Nimroz provinces. It added 28 Taliban fighters were killed and 54 more held alive in the offensives. The press release said 1000 kilograms of explosives kept by Taliban in Parwan and Khost were also seized and destroyed , it said.
Meanwhile, a defence ministry press release stated two ANA soldiers were killed and 12 more injured in separate enemy attacks.
The Taliban have not said anything in this regard till filling of this report.
