ECP to celebrate National Voters Day

ISLAMABAD (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the first time in history of the country is celebrating October, 17 as a ‘National Voters Day’ and is determined to carry outfits messages at grassroots level to increase the turnout ratio for a better and prosperous democratic Pakistan.
The ECP gave finishing touches for the ‘National voters Day’ preparation in a meeting held here on Monday.
The meeting was chaired by Acting Secretary, Muhammad Afzal Khan and was attended by senior officers, representatives of United Nations Development Program (UNDP), IFES International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES), National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and communication partners.
The Acting Secretary expounded the entire programme with all the working partners.
The first such celebration will take place on October 17 (Wednesday), at ECP Secretariat, all Provincial Capitals and some 130 district offices in the country as well as in FATAs.
The meeting also finalized the activities to be carried out on the ‘National Voters Day’.
Muhammad Afzal said that Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has issued directions to all the Secretaries of the Federal Government Ministries / Divisions, and their attached departments including corporations and autonomous bodies to actively assist the ECP in celebrating “National Voters Day” in motivating and disseminating message across the country for creating awareness among the public for their active participation in electoral process.
He said that the Provincial Chief Minister and Chief Secretaries have also forwarded direction to their respective departments for highlighting voters’ participation and to assist the ECP and NADRA in enhancing voter registration and voter awareness.
Muhammad Afzal said that the Prime Minister also directed that Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the ministry of Education and Health to chalk out special motivational programmes in collaboration with ECP to make this national cause a success.
