Anti-measles drive begins in Zhob 14 vaccination points set up

ZHOB: Deputy Commissioner Wali Muhammad Barech inaugurated the twelve-day anti-measles drive by vaccinating a child at HDF hospital here on Wednesday.
EDO Health Dr. Muzafar Shah, Team Leader Human Development Foundation (HDF) Ajab Khan Kakar, Eradication Officer WHO Dr. Farooq Kibzai, Coordinator Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) Muhammad Ismail, Dr. Sajid, Focal Person Bostan and journalists were also present on the occasion.
Deputy Commissioner said that prevention requires persuading parents to seek the vaccine for their children, adding, the drive would help to save the lives of thousands of children. He urged the media, civil society, Ulema and tribal leaders to play role in the anti-measles campaign and motivate the people to ensure preventive measures for their children against the disease.
DC also warned the officials concerned that no dereliction would be tolerated during the campaign.
Speaking on the occasion EDO health Dr. Muzafar Shah, Dr. Farooq, Ajab Khan and Muhammad Ismail said that measles, a respiratory infection caused by a virus, that can spread via contact with droplets from the nose, mouth or throat of an infected person. Sneezing and coughing can release contaminated droplets into the air.
Children who suffer from measles may experience complications including pneumonia, blindness, deafness, ear infection, diarrhea and dehydration. “Routine immunization is highly effective in preventing measles” They added.
Health department set up 16 vaccination points and 46 teams have been constituted for the purpose. During the campaign 90 thousands children aged between 9 months and 10 years would be vaccinated in 22 Union Councils of the district. Two solar refrigerators for the campaign have been provided by UNICEF and two more are expected soon.
