Terror, natural disasters in KP: One lac disabled during five years

PESHAWAR: Around 0.1million people were disabled in incidents related to terrorism and natural disasters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the last five years. These victims also include women, children and aged.
These figures were presented by Minister for Social Welfare and Women Development Sitara Ayaz while briefing newsmen about five-year performance of her department. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussain and Provincial Minister for Zakat and Ushr Haji Mohammad Zarshaid Khan, secretaries from relevant departments, and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
Sitara Ayaz said that the department had provided more than 6,749 people free of cost artificially limbs in past five years. Around 10 schools for deaf and dumb children, including nine for male and one school for female, were established for provision of formal education, vocational training, free-medical treatment and other facilities to them, Sitara added. Regarding the prevention of Drug-addiction in KP, she said five treatment centres were established in Dir Lower, D.I. Khan, Kohat, Peshawar and Swat for the rehabilitation of around 0.4million drug addicts in the province.
For provision of vocational training and skills development, Ms Ayaz said the government had newly established more than 71 industrial training institutes.
She also added that total registered cases of 8,219 with the Child Protection and Welfare Commission, around 6,168 relating to children resolved, she claimed. The commission, she added, having branches at eight districts, including Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Buner, Swat, Kohat, Charssada, and Abbottabad.
Govt released Rs162m Zakat among deserving unmarried womne: Earlier, giving presentation on performance, the Provincial Minister for Zakat and Ushr, Haji Mohammad Zarshed Khan informed that a total of Rs2523.002million had released for distribution among 20,163,341 beneficiaries in the KP province.
Similarly, he said a total of Rs162.683million had so far distributed among more than 162,638 deserving unmarried women for Zakat as Rs.10, 000 per head, under the Jahez Assistance Program in the province. Similarly, he said Rs489.935million has spent on a special scheme for provision of technical education, through which more than 44,540 deserving students were benefited.
The provincial Minister further said that the KP Zakat share has enhanced from 13.49 per cent to 13.82 per cent due to early disbursement of payments as compared to other four provinces of the country.
The KP government had received Rs548.430million as its Zakat share from the federal government, he added. He said that a sum of Rs1219.843million had spent on Guzara Allowance, while more than 18,766,815 people were taken benefits from it. Similarly, a amount of Rs365.958million had spent for provision of education allowance to more than 457,446 million students in the province.
